Gary must choose between stopping a fatal plane crash or saving the life of one girl.

While searching for answers about the paper, Gary becomes involved with a reporter who is suspicious of his apparent knowledge of a certain story.

Gary tries to stop a popular basket-baller with a medical condition from risking his life on the court.

When Gary reads that a young boy will unwittingly shoot and kill his brother with his mother's gun, he embarks on a mission to prevent it. Pretending to be from the school, he makes contact with the divorced mother and befriends her and her boys. When the ex-husband finds out about Gary, he becomes furious and causes untold trouble until Gary succeeds in getting him arrested. However, one of the sons is still in danger and Gary must find a way to prevent his untimely death.

Gary is having trouble moving on from his divorce after an encounter with Marcia. At the same time he finds his ex-boss will have troubles with one of his former co-workers. Despite the contempt he has for his ex-boss, Gary must find out who the disgruntled employee is and stop him in time.

The city is suffering from a severe cold-snap and Chuck's apartment loses its power. He moves in with Gary for the day and takes over the entire hotel room with his pet gold fish and various possessions, frustrating Gary to no end. Out on the street, Gary keeps running into the same homeless kid begging for money and then reads that the kid is going to freeze to death. Gary finds the abandoned building where the kid is living and they both become trapped and in danger of freezing to death. Chuck sees the paper and reads that both Gary and the homeless kid freeze to death, so he rushes to the rescue but he's worse than useless.

The discovery of an envelope hidden in a wall, left there by Lucius Snow, coincides with a visit of the U.S. President to Chicago. Gary uncovers an assassination plot is in the works, and he is at the center of it. The envelope left by Snow reveals that Snow faced a similar situation in 1963. Colleagues are not safe as part 1 of "The Wall" plays out.

An ex-cop dresses as Bat Masterson and solves crime as the fame old west US Marshall. He seems to step in to solve wrong-doings at places where Gary shows up.

Gary saves a psychic from a building with a gas leak. She thinks he is a psychic and admits she is a fake. When a young child is kidnapped, they are forced to work together to save the child.

Gary saves an museum art restorer from being killed by a burglar, and then must decide whether to allow matters to take their course and let her reunite with her long-lost love.

After getting tossed out of the house by his wife, Gary's dad comes to Chicago to visit Gary and discovers the secret of the paper.

Gary's apartment catches on fire and he must find a new place to live. Gary and Chuck learn someone is trying to buy McGinty's as well as a few other downtown buildings. This affects McGinty's, but also a foster home with a lot of children.

Gary tries to stop his high school girl-friend's wedding to prevent a murder.

Gary attempts to prevent the death of a middle-aged man during a surgical procedure . . . a stock broker he and Chuck used to work for.

Gary must reunite a father and daughter who were torn apart in Russia many years ago. The father is now a taxi driver, and the daughter is grown and touring America as a violin prodigy.

Believing he gets no help in running "McGinty's", and feeling he is not respected, Chuck quits and leaves the bar. Gary is suffering his own emotional trauma in dealing with the newspaper, and begins to have dreams in which a psychiatrist counsels him to take Sunday's off from the paper and relax. Watching the Chicago Bears play on TV, he reads in tomorrow's news that the Bears' quarterback and toast of the town, Joe Damski, is going to suffer a serious injury. Gary and Damski's wife try to get the quarterback to retire, but he doesn't want to. Gary and Chuck impersonate the QB and kicker respectively, hitting the playing field to save the day.

A small girl inadvertently leaves her school yard as she chases after a pet rabbit, and becomes lost in the sewers and storm drains of Chicago. The more Gary tries to find her, the more he becomes the number one suspect of the Police, as they think he had something to do with her disappearance. Chuck becomes involved with an inventor of a machine that can detect movement below ground, and he persuades the inventor to test his machine by finding the girl below the pavement. As heavy rains hit the city, the storm drains become full of water, and finding the girl before she drowns becomes a race against time.

Gary is asked to fill in a vacant City Council seat and he tries to get a traffic light installed in an area where a lot of street accidents occur. But he's told that first he has to vote with them on a project that Gary learns will displace a lot of people. So Gary decides not to vote with them and they decide not to back Gary's project. He eventually gets help from Molly Greene and a former and honest Council member.

When an Egyptian mummy goes on display at the museum, a man steals the emerald eyes and scarab from the mummy, unleashing an ancient curse. Soon, everyone associated with the theft becomes ill.

While trying to save a monkey in an abandoned theater, Gary becomes trapped on an elevated scaffold. The scaffolding is barely hanging from the vaulted ceiling, and being afraid to move or jostle it, Gary must lie quite still. The next morning Gary's father receives the newspaper and rushes into the city, hoping to save lives and prevent catastrophes, but he gets thrown in jail instead. The next morning Gary's mother receives the paper and rushes to the city, only to discover that Gary has been getting tomorrow's paper today for some time now. No one has seen Gary in two days, as they all band together in an attempt to find Gary before it's too late.

Gary makes the acquaintance of a dashing British man named Clive Harbison as he helps Gary rescue an elderly woman from her burning apartment in spectacular fashion, getting Clive's face on the news. A man named Marty is seeking revenge on Clive; after seeing the newscast he locates Clive and tries to run him over so Gary takes him to the bar for safety. Then a woman shows up at McGinty's and threatens to turn Clive into the police if he doesn't return a stolen Van Gogh painting to her museum. Somehow, Gary, Marissa and Chuck find themselves helping Clive break into the museum to replace a fake Van Gogh painting with the real one, but things take a surprising turn when Marty shows up during the break-in.

At a construction site, Gary attempts to halt the driving of a pylon into the ground, because the paper said it would cause an explosion. He is accidentally knocked unconscious and wakes up in the same location, but in the year 1871. Gary meets characters that look exactly like Chuck and Marissa, and tries to prevent Mrs. O'Leary's cow from kicking over the lamp, thereby triggering the famous Chicago fire. He fails and the fire is set anyway, but when he returns to 1998, he halts the construction and gets the manager arrested

The newspaper forecasts a power outage. With the blackout, a neighborhood dispute escalates into violence.

When Henry accidentally discovers one of Gary's newspapers from the future, he uses the information to make friends in school and provide his dad with gambling tips.

Gary becomes jealous when Erica begins to date a doctor who is beloved by everyone. He later gets the "Early Edition" and realizes that he must save his "competition" from a deadly fire.

Gary is suspicious when Chuck returns from California with a surprisingly new attitude. However, Gary soon learns that Chuck is paying someone to follow him and film his heroic acts in hopes of getting a movie deal.

When Gary interrupts a federal investigation by trying to save a towel boy from being shot, he is placed in the Witness Protection Program. He is assigned an attractive but surly agent to watch over him, which puts off Erica, whom he just got the courage to ask out.

Gary poses as a high school substitute teacher in order to prevent a school shooting. However, when his newspaper is torn up and lost, he is unable to pinpoint who the shooter is.

Gary gets in the middle of a feud between a former mobster who was just released from prison and a retired T-Man (Untouchable) who helped put him away.

Gary saves baseball player Andy Miller from sustaining a ending career injury. His agent wants to make sure he's OK, so he wants to take him to an orthopedic doctor whom Gary had earlier encountered, so they drag Gary along. On the way to the hospital Gary wonders if he'll play in Chicago. But the agent who's prime concern is the best offer (which is not Chicago) tells him not to hold his breath. When they arrive at the hospital, the doctor is not available so Gary asks another doctor, Suzy Pietro, who's also an orthopedist to check Andy out. And upon meeting there's an attraction between them. The next day, which is also Valentine's Day, the paper says that Miller will play in Chicago. And Gary, promises Erica that he'll spend the day with her and, upon seeing nothing in the paper he is able to do so. But Erica unwittingly tells Emmett, the cab driver Gary encountered earlier who's attracted to Marissa, that Miller will play for Chicago. He, in turn, picks up Miller's agent and tells him about Miller's plans and confronts Miller who says that it's because of Suzy Pietro that he wants to stay in Chicago. The agent goes to the hospital and runs into the doctor who treated Miller, who blurts out that Suzu is his fiancee, when in reality he proposed to her but she didn't accept. So he makes the doctor see Miller again and let's him talk about how he and Suzy are engaged. So later while Gary is with Erica, he notices the article about Miller changes stating that he is not going to play for Chicago. When Erica tells him about Emmett, so Gary talks to him who tells him about Miller's agent so they go to the hospital and confront Pietro who denies talking to Miller, but a nurse reveals that the doctor met with Miller and what he told him. That's when Suzy tells him she can't accept his proposal. So Gary races to catch Miller before he leaves.

Francesca & Addison Preston want to divorce but cannot come to terms over the lingerie company they started. Seems they are slated for accidents where Gary has to save them. Henry and their daughter become friends over a hockey game.

The paper tells Gary that Crumb, who is now living in a cabin, will die because of an explosion at his cabin. Gary calls Crumb and gets him outside just before the explosion. Crumb later shows up and stays with Gary. Later more attempts are made on Crumb, that's when former U.S. Marshall Toni Brigatti who joined the Chicago P.D. shows up and wonders what's going on. At the same time a woman from Crumb's past shows up.

Gary tries to convince a prison that two criminals are escaping, however they do not believe him. The criminals escape to Gary's hometown. Gary tries to help the local sheriff, but the sheriff does not like Gary and refuses his help.

Gary saves a woman from drowning. Her husband is thankful and invites Gary to dinner at their home. The officer is suspicious since his wife was in a woman only swimming club. He thinks Gary is setting up situations to play the hero.

Gary's parents visit Chicago and want to spend the day with him. Gary runs off to save ducks crossing the streets. When a cameraman snaps a picture, it shows up in the paper and starts a chain of reactions. Gary's parents are held hostage.

To stop something that's in the paper Gary assumes someone else's identity but it turns out that the identity he assumed was that of an undercover cop who's working with Brigatti. Gary has to continue being that person. Brigatti is searching for a jewel thief known as the Iceman, and she thinks it's a guy named Paul Kettler.

Gary's day seems easy with only one significant article in the newspaper, but it turns into a series of incidents as Patrick tries to talk to him. Patrick is leaving the restaurant.

Now a fugitive from justice, Gary appeals to Detective Brigatti to help get him off the hook for murder and find the real killer.

Things get hectic at McGinty's, and Marissa tells Gary he needs to start helping out at the restaurant. Gary tries to find a compromise between the restaurant and the newspaper. He is unable to help Marissa when she is hit by a car.

Gary is unable to help people when a blizzard hits Chicago.

A man in New York gets tomorrow's paper today. When his paper stops getting delivered, he flies to Chicago to talk to Gary. Meanwhile, a mysterious stranger asks Gary about his special paper delivery.

Gary saves an actress during dress rehearsal from a falling light and encounters Crumb who is part of the amateur acting group. Gary later finds out the building is going to be burned down by an arsonist.

Chuck comes back to Chicago and announces he's engaged to a girl named Jade. When Gary meets her, he's shocked because Jade is Amber, the jewel thief he encountered a while ago and allowed to escape. Gary's not sure what to do especially when Detective Brigatti whose career was nearly ruined by her learns she's back and wants to take her down.

Gary learns that Lucious Snow, the previous recipient of the paper, saved his life when he was a boy. And that that act has significance to something in the present.

Gary decides to cut off one of the bar's regulars who is a moocher until he settles his tab, and the man warns him that it's not good to do that. And when he helps someone the paper tells him to, he ruins a woman's chances of winning the lottery. That's when she comes to him, telling him that he owes her. So she lets him stay with him and claims that they're engaged. She's Irish and her family is extremely traditional and they don't like her being alone in the U.S. Her brother shows up and drives Gary nuts. And when Gary's mother shows up and likes the girl. She eventually tells Gary she wants to him to help her find the guy she really likes. The problem is, he doesn't know her.
