You could regard this as a silent version of 'Tootsie'. Basically, Lloyd dresses up as a woman (or in drag) in order to pretend to be Spit-Ball Sadie who is a high profile pitcher. He does this because he makes a promise to a woman (who sees through him all along) that he will enlist SBS for her all-girl baseball team.
