The Browns and the Stewarts are neighbors and good friends until Mr. Stewart makes a fortune manufacturing clothespins. Now socially ambitious, Mrs. Stewart urges her daughter Jane ( Mildred Harris ) to snub the Browns' son Ralph's attentions and marry a wealthy man, but Jane is in love with Ralph ( Antrim Short ) and plans to elope with him. Mr. Stewart thwarts their plans and accuses Ralph of tampering with the firm's books, but when he discovers, through the aid of little Marie Stewart ( Baby Marie Osborne ), that the actual villain is one of Jane's wealthy suitors, he allows Jane and Ralph to marry and rekindles his old friendship with the Browns.
