All aboard for chunky Bob!

Warning: Spoilers
As presented by W. Ray Johnston (by arrangement with producer, Morris R. Schlank), this Charles Saxton screenplay for Rayart Pictures Corporation was certainly produced with some very good credits, including superb photography on a number of impressive natural locations by Robert Cline, smooth film editing by Thelma Smith and no less a person than Mack V. Wright as assistant director. All the same, it's a bit of a surprise to find all these top hands at work on a well produced but nevertheless somewhat run of the mill storywise, western. Howsomever, Chunky Bob Reeves is certainly not your average "B" western hero, but he usually manages to hold his own, even though he always does seem to be more than slightly out of place.

The rest of the cast is great, with Lew O'Connor as the conniving villain, "Bulldog Prentice", and Leon de la Mothe as his top hand, Frank Benson, plus Charles Whittaker as George Peters who knew more about Benson's business than anyone except Benson himself. Although Gypsy Clarke is introduced with a bit of fanfare as Prentice's daughter, Elsie, her role is actually rather small. She has a tiny scene with Barney Furey who plays Prentice's book-keeper and then they both disappear. But at this point, Lafe McKee enters. He plays a major role as Fred Forman, a rancher whose land the villainous Prentice covets. Ione Reed makes a delightful heroine as his daughter, Beth Forman. The crooked sheriff is enacted by Frank Ellis. And the stage is now set for crooked deals, fast action and some impressively moody western scenery! Plus, of course, chunky Bob! Available on an excellent Alpha DVD as a support for "Big Stakes."
