As of 2022, this remains the only lost Laurel and Hardy film with no prints or elements known to exist. It has became known as the "Holy Grail of Laurel & Hardy films."
Although a lost film, numerous unconfirmed rumors have existed of evidence of surviving prints. These have included reports of a showing at a film festival in Denmark and the availability of 16mm prints from a television distributor in the 1950s.
It was remade in 1932 as The Music Box, their only Academy Award winning film.
In 1966, a "reconstructed" version was released. It was made up of the intertitles with still photographs taken during production.
The scene where Laurel and Hardy carry the washing machine up a long flight of stairs was reworked directly into an Edgar Kennedy short film, 'It's Your Move' (1945), this time featuring Kennedy and his brother in law, played by Jack Rice, which was directed by Hal Yates, who also directed 'Hats Off'.
