the very first Jean Gabin movie ... Warning: Spoilers
... we just see him in a one quick reel, of what I've seen. I didn't get really the story, but I saw Jean Gabin sitting at a table in a restaurant with a beautiful servant on his knees, she receives a letter and she is so glad she jumps all around with her boss (some kind of Fatty Arbuckle, we are in 1928, and it is still silent movie) and other servants who leave the restaurant to run to the station.

That would be real hard to write a spoiler, but I may find one : there is only one close-up of Jean Gabin, at the beginning when he is with with the servant on his knees caressing each other, just three seconds. Jean Gabin remains after in the center of the shots. And then it's a story without him, but we see buses with old advertisements in Paris and an old theatre.

If you you wish to see Jean Gabin in a real start, get Pour Un Soir, a real noir story. Not a masterpiece but a strong start.
