Inspector Stone says that Max Bernard came to the US on the "Berengaria". The RMS Berengaria, previously known as the SS Imperator, was a German liner built for the Hamburg America Line. She was claimed by the US after World War I as part of the war reparations demanded of Germany. After serving as a troopship returning US troops from Europe, she was purchased by the Cunard Line and sailed as a passenger liner between the US and Europe.
One of over 700 Paramount productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since.
