Sex & Nudity

  • Jane is laying naked (we assume) under a fur blanket as Tarzan lies on top of her. Female full rear nudity and brief full frontal female nudity in underwater swimming sequence. Bare-chested male nudity and loincloth on man during swimming. Close detail is not evident due to size of image and film quality.
  • At a campsite, Jane goes into a tent to change from her jungle outfit to an evening dress. Unknown to her, three men sitting near by can see her silhouette as she slips out of her outfit. We can see the outline of her naked body. The men clearly admire the sight. One man forces a kiss on Jane while dancing and they are interrupted.
  • Jane (Maureen O'Sullivan) wears an outfit which is completely open at the sides. During a scene in which she crouches to fire a gun, the front flap moves to one side and exposes her lower front. This scene was subsequently clipped by the censors, but was restored for the uncut re-release.
  • Most of the African men wear only loin cloths. The African women are topless, their breasts are visible.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a battle between two African tribes using spears and knives. The safari leaders use guns also. A man is stabbed in the back, with blood around the wound. Overall, there is very little blood.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Tarzan rips Jane's (Maureen O'Sullivan) dress off as he pushes her in the river. He dives in after her. They swim underwater playfully together and we see Jane (body double Josephine McKim) is naked. Her butt is clearly visible in some well lit shots and we can see the sides of her breasts. The water is murky in other shots and the couple is filmed from a distance so we can't see nipples or pubic hair when Jane faces the camera briefly a few times. After a few minutes of swimming Jane (O'Sullivan) climbs out of the water but stands behind bushes so we can't see her body. A chimpanzee takes her dress and climbs into a tree taunting her. She scolds him until he gives it back. She puts it on.
