First appearance of Porky Pig.
Was conceived as an attempt to create a cartoon equivalent of Hal Roach's "Our Gang" shorts. Only a handful of cartoons were made with the new characters before the concept was dropped. Although there was an effort to make Beans the cat the newest Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies star, that role eventually went to Porky Pig.
The title is from the song "I Haven't Got a Hat", written by Buddy Bernier and Bob Emmerich and sung during the cartoon short. Ham and Ex did the singing.
The calendar on the wall (around 4:09) shows the year as being 1943, eight years in the future from when "I Haven't Got a Hat" was released.
Oliver Owl would appear as a jazz loving owlet the next year in "I Love to Singa," a humorous nod to the Al Jolson film, "The Jazz Singer."
