The initials of R. P. W. C. R. C. W. M. R. (Spanky's Confederate Army) stands for "The Royal Protection of Women and Children, Regiment Club of the World and Mississippi River".
George McFarland ("Spanky") died at age 64, Billie 'Buckwheat' Thomas ("Buckwheat") died at age 49 and Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer ("Alfalfa") died at age 31.
Despite being advertised as an Our Gang feature, only Spanky, Alfalfa, and Buckwheat have major roles. John Collum, Porky Lee, Harold Switzer, and Jerry Tucker are mostly anonymous as Kid Army members.
Gordon Douglas had directed only four Our Gang shorts, and no features at all up until this time, but his first Our Gang film, "Bored of Education" won the Oscar for Best Short Subject the previous year.
Castle Films released two one-reel cut-downs from "General Spanky" for the home movie market in the 1960s. The titles were "The Little Rebel" and "Double Trouble".
