Chinese box office is expected to see a strong boost when 2017's final numbers are tallied: up as much as 20% or more to Rmb 55B ($8.31B), according to the state media authority. The growth this year is spurred on by the massive takings of Wolf Warrior 2 and other hits like The Fate Of The Furious and the current Never Say Die. A ticketing fee factored into the totals doesn’t hurt either. The figures were unveiled by Sapprft Vice Minister, Zhang Hongsen, at a press…...

Never Say Die just won't quit.
The body-swapping sports comedy from theater troupe turned film powerhouse Mahua Funage earned $30.9 million in its third weekend, bringing its 16-day total to a massive $280 million, according to box-office analysts EntGroup.
That was just enough to give it the title of biggest comedy ever in a single market, taking the crown from Ben Stiller's and Robert DeNiro's Meet the Fockers ($279.3 million, 2004). It also surged past Jackie Chan's Kung Fu Yoga ($250 million) from earlier this year, becoming the biggest comedy ever in the China market.

2017-10-15T14:52:48-07:00'Happy Death Day' Exceeds Expectations
It's hard to beat horror movies at the box office these days. This week, the small-budget horror flick Happy Death Day easily sailed past the big-budget sci-fi flick Blade Runner 2049, which debuted to disappointing ticket sales last week. Thanks to a strong showing from Stephen King's It, horror movies have now ruled the box office for four of the past five weeks, and no other genre has been able to come close to ending horror's dominance.
Via The Hollywood Reporter.
Getting an early jump on Halloween, Universal and Blumhouse's Happy Death Day opened over the weekend to a strong $26.5 million from 3,149 theaters in another win for the horror genre.
The microbudgeted pic, directed by Christopher Landon and rated PG-13, stars Jessica Rothe as a college student who relives the day of her murder over and...

Local comedy Never Say Die dominated China's Golden Week autumn holiday period this year.
The body-swapping comedy from Mahua Funage, a Beijing theater troupe turned box-office powerhouse, earned $65.3 million in its second weekend, taking its nine-day total to a massive $220 million. The blockbuster pulled in around $25 or more every day of the weeklong holiday, nearly tripling the individual totals of the various local titles that trailed it.
The film will easily surpass Goodbye Mr. Loser, Mahua's debut release, which wildly surpassed expectations by earning $226 million in 2015.

Martial arts comedy Never Say Die came out swinging at the Chinese box office over the weekend, opening with $46.2 million on Saturday and Sunday.
The slapstick hit relegated Jackie Chan to a rare second-place finish, as his Stx-produced action thriller The Foreigner opened with $21.9 million over the same two days.
Sunday was the start of one of China's so-called "Golden Weeks," a lucky succession of national holidays that results in most Chinese employees getting a full seven days off work. After making fans wait thirteen months since first teasing “Invaders” last July, Zomboy has finally released the blistering dubstep single. It was originally believed that the song would appear on the Neon Graves Ep, but fans were understandably disappointed when the release surfaced without it.
After gaining steam on the live front from notable bass DJs like Getter and SKisM, Zomboy has finally given in to our demands and dropped “Invaders” over the weekend via Never Say Die Black Label Xxl.
“Invaders” features all the hallmarks we’ve come to expect of Zomboy’s dubstep material as of late, with mind warping sound design and screeching basslines. The new single kicks off with an ominous chord progression accompanied by cinematic percussion, creating an eerie, galactic atmosphere. The track then explodes into wild fan pleasing drops with raucous metallic synths and monstrous growls layered between punchy drum hits.

Never say die. This was essentially the message of ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey at the Television Critics Association press tour about the potential return of Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This comes after the planned spinoff, Marvel's Most Wanted, was scrapped, leaving Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse out in the cold. “The characters were disavowed,” Dungey said. “But I never underestimate Marvel’s ability to bring people back.” Palicki’s return to the superhero show might be slightly challenging. The actress has already signed on to Seth MacFarlane’s untitled space dramedy on Fox as a series regular. So her dance card could be full. While Marvel's Most Wanted didn't make the cut, Dungey indicated that this didn't mark the end of their efforts to pursue superhero projects. She noted that the network is involved in ongoing discussions with the Marvel folks regarding additional shows...

There are few movies that tap into what it is to be a child, but The Goonies captures it perfectly. It may be adventurous and far-fetched, but that is the adventures we had when we were young. The Goonies: 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition blu-ray celebrates the undying love that people have for the movie that never seems to age (even if the actors do).

If we're being honest, "Constantine" has been dead for a while. "Constantine" has been dead since November when NBC confirmed that the DC Comics adaptation wouldn't get a back-nine order. The number of network shows that do low ratings in the fall, fail to get back-nine orders and then somehow get picked up for additional episodes the next season is basically "zero." "Constantine" has also been dead since February, when the series finale did a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49, capping off a season in which even factoring in DVR numbers, the series was barely doing "Dracula"-level ratings. And, most significantly, "Constantine" has been dead since May when NBC confirmed that at least as far as NBC was concerned, the series was cancelled. Through it all, showrunner Daniel Cerone has kept hope alive for fans with nebulous tweets about pitching future seasons to NBC and Warner Brothers pitching the potentially...

Black Sabbath’s reunion album has yielded at least one new career high-water mark for the hard rock vets: “13” sold 155,000 and debuts at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 this week, making it the Brits’ first chart-topper for the overall album sales tally. Black Sabbath’s previous best charting week came with “Master of Reality” in 1971 at a No. 8 peak. “13” is Sabbath’s first studio album with Ozzy Osbourne at the helm since 1978’s “Never Say Die!” Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” stays put at No. 2 (48,000, -22%) and Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” climbs No. 9...

To celebrate their new Rick Rubin-produced album 13 (out June 11), Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler called a town hall meeting last week. Held at Los Angeles’ Harmony Gold, it was a reminder of the music industry’s good old days, with a buffet fit for a king, all to impress journalists, fans and metal heads as they took in the new music -- the band’s first studio offering with Osbourne since 1978's Never Say Die. The itinerary for the night’s activities wasn’t entirely clear at first, not to attendees or Butler, who joked with The Hollywood Reporter that

It finally happened. A new Black Sabbath album with Ozzy on vocals. It would have been a full fledged original line-up reunion too if it hadn't been for drummer Bill Ward dropping out after a weak-ass contractual dispute. But that's Ok, because Rick Rubin produced '13' and there's no-one better to produce a Sabbath album than an actual wizard. Brad Wilk from Rage Against The Machine stepped in for the drums on Black Sabbath's 19th studio effort and he does a fine job. This is also the first Sabbath album with Ozzy Osbourne on vocals since 1978's 'Never Say Die', so that's the money right there. The old crew has reunited for several live performances over the years but this is an actual record. A brand new Black Sabbath album. How cool is that? I still don't think it's real and I've...

Never say die. It ain't over 'til it's over. Six seasons and a movie.
Any of the above statements may apply to NBC's bizarre and beloved comedy, "Community." Despite low (although fairly steady) ratings and no news of a Season 5 pickup, there is now a chance that this bubbliest of bubble shows could return yet again.
How is that possible?
Ratings
One strong reason is oh-so-familiar to TV fans: the ratings. "Community" actually did pretty well in its Season 4 finale numbers -- 3.1 million viewers tuned in live for the show. This is one of the highest numbers seen all season and an increase of half a million viewers from the previous week.
But this isn't the only good news for "Community." Do you remember a little show called "American Idol"? While the singing competition obviously trounced "Community" by several million total viewers, the two shows actually tied in one key...

Originally slated to play only four dates, Black Sabbath has expanded its 2013 North American tour to 20 shows, starting July 25 in Houston. The tour will follow the release of Black Sabbath’s Rick Rubin-produced new album, “13,” out June 11, featuring the song “God Is Dead,” which was released last week. On Charlie Chaplin’s 124th birthday, Dalton writes on the legend’s immortal classic “Modern Times” (1936)
A clock with the seconds-needle soundlessly completes a circle and a half around it, setting the opening tone for Chaplin’s satirical “story of industry, of individual enterprise – humanity crusading in the pursuit of happiness”: Modern Times, inhabited in the Depression years by the famished populace, jobless or underpaid as a consequence of industrialization.
Immediately following is the image of a black sheep in the midst of white ones, all hurrying to get ahead. This merges into that of people rushing for work. Oddly, the sheep have no bearing to the film, and further, having made their point, do not bother to make another appearance. We must, of course, accept this as one of the many unformed techniques of the pioneering days of cinema.

No matter how much The Osbournes made you think Ozzy is limited to muttering variations of fuck, the guy can still belt, even at 64. Thus a Rick Rubin-produced record featuring the original Black Sabbath lineup (with Rage Against the Machine's Brad Wilk subbing for salty drummer Bill Ward) is something worth noting. Slated for a June release, 13 is the band's first studio album with Ozzy since 1978's Never Say Die!

The recently reunited Black Sabbath—minus drummer Bill Ward, for whatever reason—has announced a new album. 13 will be out sometime this June, just in time for summer festival season, with production by comeback impresario Rick Rubin. It’s Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler’s first record together since 1978’s Never Say Die!, and it will mark the group’s return to its original label, Vertigo, which is now part of the Universal Music Group. Black Sabbath plans to tour Australia, New Zealand, and Japan this spring, and will announce additional, hopefully North American tour dates ...

As an 80s baby, the films from the retro age are reminiscent of my childhood. I’m sure, whether born during the 80′s or not, many of you would agree that the array of cinematic classics that were born on screen at that time should never ever be remade…
The negative views towards remaking 80s films isn’t helped by recently disappointing attempts such as dystopian sci-fi action movie Total Recall (2012). However, that hasn’t stopped Hollywood from churning out renovations of classic movies from its film factory. Currently in the works are: RoboCop remake due in 2014; delayed Ghostbusters 3 sequel to be confirmed; Star Wars: Episode VII due in 2015; and even talks of a prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining!
So with these trends of creating a seemingly new nostalgia for future generations (although they could never emulate the original films), I wonder which films could actually work as a remake/reboot.

It's about to become really apparent, but I am absolutely obsessed with Mamie Gummer. And it's not because she's Meryl Streep's daughter -- in fact, when I first witnessed one of Mamie's magnificent performances, I had no idea she was Streep's spawn. I simply thought her to be a classic beauty. Which she is. Once I learned of her lineage, it only made me love her more.
Oh, and don't even get me started on the knowledge that she's married to Benjamin Walker, star of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. But this is not about her personal life, it's about her professional prowess -- something she'll bring to The Big C starting with Sunday's all-new episode. I caught up with Mamie to talk about reuniting with Laura Linney on the Showtime series after I gushed a bit about her work on The Good Wife. We also talk about her potential fall pilot and what it's like growing...

Survivor: One World Review, Season 24, Episode 11, “Never Say Die”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
A consistent source of frustration for Survivor fans is players accepting their spot and refusing to make big moves. It’s true that a good percentage of the time, it doesn’t make sense to change up the game. Unexpected twists provide great television, but they don’t always benefit the contestants themselves. Following the merge, however, there comes a time when anyone who actually wants to win has to pick their spot. Will they go meekly into the sunset and become a forgettable fifth place finisher? Or will they take a chance and try to gain an edge? If the plans fail, they can lead to a quick exit, but is it really that much worse to finish eighth? When John Cochran flipped on his tribe last season, he didn’t improve his ultimate standing.

Just when you think Kenny Powers can’t possibly be a worse parent he goes and puts his son Toby in a hole in the beach, then covers Toby with a towel so he won’t get stolen whilst he surfs. Luckily that was the extent of torture for Toby this week as the episode largely focused on Kenny’s new rivalry with a Russian, Stevie’s jealousy of Shane and ended with an unexpected death.
Following on from Chapter 15, Stevie and his wife arrive in Myrtle Beach to live with Kenny and look after Toby. Stevie immediately goes running off to find Kenny surfing at the beach, our first cringeworthy moment comes when Kenny introduces Shane (Jason Sudekis) casually as his best friend. You can feel the knife go into Stevie’s back. It’s then made worse by Shane tackling Stevie to the ground and mimes bumming him,...
