When this serial was being written, it was intended to be a series that utilized Superman as the main hero. The owners of Superman decided they didn't want to let the studio use the character. Instead of scraping the project altogether, the writers replaced Superman with a character of their own creation, called The Copperhead.

The shriek emitted by Scarlett as he's killed by Doctor Satan's robot is not, as occasionally stated, the 'Wilhelm Scream'. The famous sound effect wasn't recorded until 1951 and is quite different.
In Chapter 5, "Doctor Satan's Man of Steel", when the thug, Scarlett, (played by Lynton Brent) is killed by Doctor Satan's robot, his scream is the famous "Wilhelm Scream."
In Chapter 7, "The Monster Strikes", when the night watchman at the Metropolitan Drug Co. warehouse is attacked by the robot, he emits the famous "Wilhelm Scream."
