The eleventh of sixteen Andy Hardy films starring Mickey Rooney. The third and final Hardy film featuring Judy Garland as Betsy Booth. This was the sixth of ten films overall to feature both Mickey and Judy.
The tag line for the film 'Mickey Woos! Judy Sings!' was featured on a number of ads for the release. Although she pre-recorded four songs for the film, these were all dropped before release. Except a brief rendition of 'Happy Birthday', Judy Garland does not sing in the film.
During this time, on May, 1941, Judy and composer/conductor David Rose announced their engagement. They were married in Las Vegas on July 28,1941. Rose was Judy's first husband. She was nineteen years old.
Four songs prerecorded by Judy Garland were not used in the film: Cole Porter's "Easy to Love" (available on the Rhino CD, "Judy Garland: Collectors' Gems from the M-G-M Films"); the patriotic "America (My Country Tis of Thee)" (written by Henry Carey and Samuel Francis Smith); plus two religious songs: "Abide with Me" and "The Rosary." Miss Garland's one musical moment in the release print was her unaccompanied rendition of "Happy Birthday to You" (music and lyrics by Mildred J. Hill and Patty S. Hill). The movie's original poster raves, "Mickey woos! Judy sings! Best Hardy yet!"
Judy Garland filmed her portions between April and May, 1941,which overlapped with her beginning of Babes On Broadway
