The kids try to find out who the new tough guy is
dbborroughs11 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The kids start a newspaper and as one of their first orders of business is to find out who it is that is leading a gang of toughs that has sprung up and breaking heads.

One of the few MGM Our Gang shorts that actually has a plot from beginning to end with no real distractions and diversions. The plot is about the paper and the rival gang and thats it. the film is so much better for it. As things stand its not the best of the series but it is one of the better ones simply because it keeps its focus from start to finish. I liked it and think its worth a look.

Going to Press was one of the rare M-G-M entries of the Our Gang series that didn't teach a lesson
tavm31 January 2015
This M-G-M comedy short, Going to Press, is the two hundred fifth entry in the "Our Gang" series and the one hundred seventeenth talkie. Spanky and the gang are running the newspaper the Greenpoint Flash when they stumble into a story of the mysterious Gas House Gang. One of the paper's supporters is Frank (Darryl Hickman) but he's someone who's not what he seems...This marked the second appearance of Juanita Quigley as Sally from The New Pupil. Both she and Hickman are credited in the opening credits indicating they were guest stars in the series. This was a refreshingly amusing entry without the moralizing that marred previous eps. So on that note, Going to Press is recommended. P.S. Both Ms. Quigley and Hickman are both still living as of this writing. Ms. Quigley joined a convent as an adult then went back to a normal life with a husband who had previously studied for priesthood. They're both retired. Hickman had previously acted in John Ford's The Grapes of Wrath and would go on acting growing up including a guest shot as actual younger brother Dwayne's older sibling on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" on TV. His last acting roles were on "The Nanny". He's also worked as a producer and writer.

"The best-dressed kid ALWAYS turns out to be a lying weasel" . . .
oscaralbert25 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
. . . is the aphorism which GOING TO PRESS urges American kids to take to the bank. As soon as "Frank" begins chewing the scenery here in his $14 suit, most any Tot of Character will be able to finger Frank as a Trumpster in the making. At least three members of "Our Gang" are kidnapped by Frank's Henchbrats during GOING TO PRESS, and physically assaulted to boot. Trumpsters such as Sean Spicerack, Kellyanne Conwoman, and the Fat Dude himself already have declared The Press as their Enemy Number One. Certainly this Gang of Deplorables SHOULD be quaking in their boots, because each reporter that they assassinate will be replaced by 100 more, Our Gang style. Their False News Networks chock full of Fake Facts already have sent crazed machine-gunners to shoot up quiet pizzerias. Tonight's (March 24, 2017) Breaking News concerned crackpot Trumpster Gen. Michael Flynn, Sr.'s attempts to recruit America's CIA Chief into a bizarre plot to kidnap an elderly Virginian, Gas House Gang style. Frank's Gas House Gang enjoys far more success in their 11 minutes here than have the Traitorous Trumpsters during their first 65 Days of Terrorizing America.
