Chloe, the swamp song
lee_eisenberg2 March 2007
In what must have been one of Daffy Duck's last black and white cartoons, he's looking for someone named Chloe, but gets the hiccups and goes to Dr. Jerkyl for a cure. Sure enough, Dr. Jerkyl transforms himself...into a big doofus named Chloe. Go figure! Apparently, the opening scene of Daffy calling for Chloe in a swamp, that's something that audiences in 1942 probably would have understood perfectly but has since lost all meaning. As I understand it, there was a song called something like "Chloe, the Swamp Song".

But even ignoring that, this is a fairly humorous cartoon. Granted, I like it better when Daffy gets paired with the other famous Looney Tunes, but he does OK here.

I guess that no one knows anyone else very well.

A weird episode (not in a very good way) and quite unusual. It does have its good moments.

I will address the advantages and disadvantages of this episode in a very straightforward manner:

Advantages: Daffy is very cute and likable in this episode (for myself), the animation has a pretty good style to it and there are witty old fashioned jokes which will amuse old cartoon buffs (old cartoons, not necessarily old buffs). Disadvantages: The character of Chloe is very intimidating and seems pretty pointless (even though it is the main feature of the episode), Dr. Jekyll is not Dr. Jekyll for a long time, which is sad, because he could have had a better and longer appearance, and the episode has quite a sinister, unfriendly feeling to it, which is unusual for WB cartoons of this era.

I do recommend you to watch this if you are a fan of Daffy Duck, Looney Tunes, older humour and old cartoons in general;however, you might not enjoy it as much as other cartoons that fall into the previous category. It is still worth a watch though. :-) Enjoy "The Impatient Patient"! :-)

7 and a half out of ten.

"When you hear the tone, the time will be eggzacklee ten to"

The Impatient Patient is not the best of Daffy. I think there could have been more of Dr Jerkyll, I didn't really get or find funny the opening scene and while good on the most part Daffy's character design does have some inconsistencies like his hat turning yellow suddenly, his neck being pink instead of white and there is even one part where his body disappears. However, the animation on the whole is very good, the backgrounds have fluidity and the colours add to the oddball tone of the cartoon(though I do think black and white would be more effective). The music is full of bright energy and witty character, while the writing is clever with little gems like "when you hear the tone, the time will be eggzacklee ten to", "HEY JERK!DUCK!" and "I'm Kloe Kardashian, let's you, and me wraaassle" and the gags equally so. The story has a somewhat silly but still interesting and well-used premise, and apart from a somewhat slow start it didn't make my interest waver. Daffy is manic personified and Chloe manages to be both intimidating and cute. Mel Blanc is as ever stellar. Overall, not exactly a jewel in the crown from Daffy Duck, but well worth watching still. 7/10 Bethany Cox
