- Johnny McQueen: I remember. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I understood as a child. But when I became a man, I put way childish things. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity, I am become a sounding brass or a inkling cymbal. Though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and though I have all faiths so that I could remove mountains and have not charity... I am nothing.
- Inspector: In my profession there is neither good nor bad. There is innocence and guilt. That's all.
- Inspector: I'm sorry, Father, but it's my duty to bring this man to justice.
- Father Tom: That's the duty of all of us.
- [last lines]
- Policeman: There's their gun, sir.
- Inspector: [softly, after examining Kathleen's tiny revolver] Two shots fired.
- Policeman: Yes sir. That's when we had to fire back.
- [the ship that was to have carried Johnny and Kathleen to safety blasts its horn mournfully as the clock strikes twelve midnight]
- [the police are closing in on Johnny and Kathleen]
- Johnny McQueen: Kathleen, where are you?
- Kathleen Sullivan: It's all right, Johnny. I'm here.
- Kathleen Sullivan: Is it far?
- Johnny McQueen: It's a long way, Johnny, but I'm coming with you. We're going away together.
- [Kathleen pulls a small pistol from her pocket and fires a couple of random shots. The police respond with a hail of gunfire]
