Narrated by John Krasinski (“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” NBC’s “The Office,” “Amazon’s “Jack Ryan”), Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure film “Born In China” takes an epic journey into the wilds of China where few people have ever ventured. Following the stories of three animal families, the film transports audiences to some of the most extreme environments on Earth to witness some of the most intimate moments ever captured in a nature film. A doting panda bear mother guides her growing baby as she begins to explore and seek independence. A two-year-old golden monkey who feels displaced by his new baby sister joins up with a group of free-spirited outcasts. And a mother snow leopard—an elusive animal rarely caught on camera—faces the very real drama of raising her two cubs in one of the harshest and most unforgiving environments on the planet.

Discovery’s 27th Annual Shark Week officially kicks off Sunday, Aug. 10 with the premiere of Air Jaws: Fin of Fury (8 p.m. Et). Veteran filmmaker Jeff Kurr led his team on a two-year hunt for Colossus, the aggressive “mega-shark” with a deformed dorsal fin he famously captured breaching at Seal Island, South Africa, in 2011. Here’s a sneak peek of two of the hour’s most tense moments, with commentary from Kurr.

During its fledgling years as a film studio, the Walt Disney Company helped revolutionize the nature documentary with its True-Life Adventure series. Here, as never before, audiences could thrill to the story of seals, beavers, bears, tigers, and the rest of the creatures sharing space with us on Earth. These days, what is most striking about these early documentaries is less the physical ground they cover, and more that they come from a patient time in filmmaking. Documentaries like The Living Desert and Seal Island featured narration and music, and sometimes attempted to play up the humor of an animalistic situation, but they were still created by people who afforded their presumed audience a base level of intelligence. In some respects, these nature documentaries were born out of the insistence on...

A few weeks ago, HuffPost Green featured amazing video footage of great white sharks breaching in super-slow motion, recorded on Phantom cameras for Discovery Channel's "Air Jaws" series.
For "Air Jaws Apocalypse," part of Shark Week 2012, filmmaker Jeff Kurr got close to the action off Seal Island in South Africa. The island, known for its ubiquitous white shark population, is prime turf for studying and photographing the majestic predators.

According to Discovery Channel, Seal Island is the only place in the world where great whites are known to perform dramatic aerial breaches, which occur daily as they feed on seals during winter months.

Tonight marks the start of Shark Week’s 25th Anniversary, and Discovery wastes no time giving viewers what they want — the breaching great whites off South Africa’s Seal Island. The behavior was first shot in 2001, but Shark Week 2012 seeks two new angles: In Air Jaws Apocalypse (9 p.m. Et), filmmaker Jeff Kurr lies on a “seal sled” that tows a decoy seal 15 feet behind him in order to film an attack by 14-foot great white/badass Colossus at surface level. (You might recall in Ultimate Air Jaws, shark expect/photographer Chris Fallows used the sled, but he only shot with a still camera.

It's the 25th anniversary of Discovery Channel's Shark Week extravaganza, otherwise known as the best thing ever on television ever, ever, ever, forever. The event kicked off July 17, 1988, and this year, Discovery promises to be shark-ier than ever with "specials that get you so close to the action, if you were any closer you'd be bait!"
It all begins August 12 at 9 p.m. Est. Throughout the week, you can expect to see eight new specials. 2011's "Ultimate Air Jaws" gets a follow-up with "Air Jaws Apocalypse," in which shark expert Chris Fallows and producer Jeff Kurr explore Seal Island, South Africa, risking their lives for a close encounter with the 14-foot great white shark known as Colossus.
In "Shark Fight," victims of shark attacks discuss the terrifying moments of their confrontations. They've persevered after losing their limbs to sharks -- and now, these victims have actually dedicated their lives to protecting sharks.

The debut of the new gospel smash "Moves Like Jesus" was a resounding success.
This week ABC presented back-to-back new episodes of Gcb (to test out its viability in the Desperate Housewives timeslot), and both episodes provided more reasons why this show should be renewed.
Let's take a look at five highlights from each show, starting with "Turn The Other Cheek," which focused on the 17th annual vow renewal for Ripp and Carlene. The theme of this year's gala is Gone With The Wind, which shockingly had never been used in any of their renewals. I would have expected that theme to be near the top of the list, along with "A Tribute To Dubya," and "Come as Your Favorite Biblical Plague." (mine would be "blood," with a Super Soaker filled with Clamato.)

It's amazing the resurgence that sea creatures have been enjoying over the last several months. Piranha 3D is just around the corner, but if you like your sea monsters with a bit more girth to them, the 2011 Halle Berry thriller Dark Tide just may be your hot ticket for terror.
Speaking of which, things became a little too real recently while filming the flick on Seal Island in South Africa where Berry had a frightening run-in with a Great White who tore apart a seal decoy. Check out the images below courtesy of Wwtdd and hit up the link for a few more.
Synopsis
"Sara (Halle Berry) is a modern-day adventurer, deeply drawn to close encounters with the magnificent White Sharks who rule the primal predator shore of isolated Guadalupe Island. When her husband chooses ambition over his wife's safety in a split-second encounter with the jaws of death, her marriage nearly breaks apart.

I can't wait for a round 2 bout with Halle Berry, who several years ago refused an interview with Bloody Disgusting because the site name "scared her" (I'm not joking). She may be 43, but former Bond girl Halle Berry can still rock a bikini. The Oscar winner sported a floral bikini and a rolled-down wetsuit (Catwoman flashbacks, anyone?) while filming scenes for the new action-thriller Dark Tide in Seal Island, South Africa. Berry, mom of adorable daughter Nahla, is reportedly jumping right in to shark-infested waters to play the daring diver, Sara, who returns to the water after a near-death experience with a killer great white shark. Her role in ‘Dark Tide’ is that of a diving instructor who returns to deep waters after a near-fatal encounter with one of the predators.

Halle Berry headed out into the bay off the coast of Seal Island, South Africa, today to continue shooting Dark Tide. She wore a string bikini underneath her wetsuit as sharks swam close to her boat, though the actress was surrounded by trained professionals to make sure she stayed safe. Halle started work on the movie earlier this week and was spotted getting her sea legs yesterday with costar Olivier Martinez. She has been prepping for this project for months, which included showing off her perfectly toned two-piece body during long walks on the beach - the hot mom made it far in our swimsuit bracket, but now it's down to Aniston vs Decker. Halle's ready to take on the intense scenes, but at the end of the day she's lucky enough to have Nahla and Gabriel close to keep her company. View 15 Photos › To see more Halle, just read more.
