Having retrieved their horses John and Tom carry a letter of confession written by Carver Doone which despite being soaked in the river is still intact and legible.
John and Tom accompany the sheriff with two of the King's men to the gate of Doone Castle. Once through the gate the sheriff shouts a warning to the guards who are killed along with the sheriff but at one point in the background is a man in a plumed hat who seems to have appeared out of nowhere. The shot at the gate only shows John, Tom and the sheriff and not the other two men. The fight with the guards includes the two King's men who rode to the castle with the other three.
John Ridd and Tom Faggus are being pursued on horseback by the Doone men and inexplicably simultaneously jump off their horses into a pond or stream while riding over a bridge. In the next shot they are equally inexplicably back on horseback riding for the King's help.
Lorna Doone is wearing the same wedding gown for the forced marriage to Carver Doone and then very unlikely again later for her actual marriage to John Ridd.
