Married couple Joe and Alice McDoakes are each at the end of their respective rope in feeling unappreciated by the other in what they contribute to the marriage, Joe as the breadwinner working a nine-to-five office job, and Alice as the household manager. They decide to file for divorce. As having the same lawyer doesn't achieve either of their end goals, they instead try marriage counseling, the therapist who has worked out a way for each to see life from the other's point of view, which seems to have solved their marital problem. However, seeing life from the other's point of view has some unintended consequences in their specific real life situation.
