Shown at the 1953 Cannes Film Festival, the film received an award as best fictional short film.
Remade thirty years later in an episode of the TV series Tales of the Unexpected (1979) under the title: Stranger in Town (1982). Both versions were directed by Wendy Toye.
The piece of music used repeatedly in the movie, "Swedish Rhapsody", was recorded in 1953 by Percy Faith and his orchestra, and was a US Top 30 hit. The same year, light orchestral British cover versions by Mantovani and Ray Martin made the UK Singles Chart, peaking at no. 2 and no. 4 respectively.
Filmed on location in Windsor, with many scenes taking place outside Windsor Castle.
