Originally filmed in 3D; but, by the time it opened, 3D had lost favor among audiences, and many first run engagements, as well as most second run engagements, opted to offer it in the standard 2D version.
The film's opening title card reads: "Victor Saville Presents Mickey Spillane's I, the Jury." The opening credits also has the two following entries:
- "Written for the screen and directed by Harry Essex"
- "The Seitz Twins" (in the cast list), who are Tani Guthrie and Dran Hamilton.
When the movie opened, in 3D, on 21 Aug 1953 at the Criterion Theatre in New York City, it earned $10,000 the first day, a non-holiday box-office record, according to the 24 Aug 1953.
The film was shot mostly on sets at Samuel Goldwyn Studios on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, CA. Mike Hammer's office scenes were filmed at the Bradbury Building at the corner of Broadway and W. Third Street in downtown Los Angeles.
