Rachel Darwin (Sarah Jurgens) is a young, mother-to-be, haunted by nightmares. When she wakes, looming over her is the shadowy image of a dark man with a brimmed hat. Her hotshot lawyer of a husband, Scott (Nick Baillie), doesn’t believe in any of that supernatural nonsense. It’s sleep paralysis. It’s stress. It’s hallucinations. Rachel seeks group therapy, but she’s too weird, even for them. But she’s not too weird for William (Adam Tomlinson), who knows exactly what she’s going through and is even weirder than her. What is the shadow man? Is he the manifestations of a confused and troubled woman? Or is he an extra-dimensional cattle rustler looking to fatten up and eat human souls?
First off, let’s...

Horror legend Joe Dante remembers his chilling ’80’s Twilight Zone episode “The Shadow Man”. Even considering how poorly Warner’s 1983 theatrical attempt to revitalize the house that Rod Serling built fared at the box office (not to mention the tragedy that unfolded behind the scenes), CBS nevertheless dipped back into The Twilight Zone well and green-lit…

On the eve of San Diego Comic-Con, Activision pulled back the curtain on the Zombies Mode within Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which will feature a colorful ensemble that includes Jeff Goldbum, Heather Graham, Neil McDonoguh, Ron Perlman and Robert Picardo as a mysterious character known as The Shadow Man.
That mainline cooperative mode will be entitled Shadows of Evil, whisking the undead action back to the 1940s replete with larger-than-life characters and older weaponry. But that’s not the only time period that Black Ops III‘s Zombies will be revisiting, after the publisher revealed that Treyarch’s shooter will also include a remastered version of the beloved Der Reise map from Call of Duty: World at War in the form of The Giant. It’s set to be included in the Collector’s Edition of the new installment, and you can check out a description of the map below.

Shadows of Evil is the name, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the game. As promised, developer Treyarch has lifted the veil on its brand new version of the series’ fan-favorite Zombies Mode, which will take the undead action back to where it all began: the 1940s.
In keeping with the tradition of the more recent installments, the co-operative multiplayer mode will also feature a star-studded cast that includes Jeff Goldbum, Heather Graham, Neil McDonoguh, Ron Perlman and Robert Picardo as a mysterious character known as The Shadow Man. All of these larger-than-life characters will play as archetypes associated with the time period, too, including the The Magician, The Femme-Fatale, The Cop and The Boxer. We’ll let you put a face to a name in the bombastic reveal trailer above. Here’s a picture from the game’s official Twitter feed:

The Nightmare
Directed by Rodney Ascher
USA, 2015
It starts with a tingling sensation, almost like an electric jolt to the body. A heavy weight presses down upon the chest, rendering you immobile. You sense a presence in the corner of the bedroom. It moves closer and closer to your bed. You try to move or scream, but nothing happens. The shadow man just keeps lurching forward. Soon he’ll be upon you, and there is no telling what damage he’ll inflict.
For those with sleep paralysis, every night brings personal trauma. For The Nightmare, Room 237 director Rodney Ascher interviews eight people who have the disorder, asking them to thoroughly describe their nightly terrors. As victim testimony plays over the soundtrack in voice-over, Ascher recreates the nightmares through the use of actors, costumes, and low-budget special effects.
It is uncertain how one is meant to respond to the various reenactments.
