In one scene, Nasty Canasta is reading a Grave Diggers joke book by Burke and Hare. Burke and Hare were notorious murderers in Scotland in the early 1800s who murdered people and then sold the bodies to a surgeon who then used the bodies for anatomical study.
Canasta is an actual card game. It is attributed to some bridge players in Montevideo Uruguay back in 1939. The game was developed as a shorter version of bridge and soon reached the U.S., where it is still played.
Daffy's little red wagon was a staple plaything of the era. One of the most popular models was the Radio Flyer, which still transports kids of all ages in 2023.
In Daffy's first line, he calls out, "Whoa, Tinfoil!" to get his horse to stop. This spoofs and inverts the Lone Ranger's famous call to his horse, "Hi yo, Silver!", to get him to gallop.
Daffy's character seems to be a mix of the Green Hornet (green accessories), the Lone Ranger, the Cisco Kid, and a touch of Superman for good measure.
