- Mrs. Grant: Janette - I won't beat about the bush. I had bad news this morning.
- Janette Grant: Bad news?
- Mrs. Grant: Yes. Your father died in hospital last night.
- [last lines]
- Mr. J. Pritchard: You know something Mrs Grant? Those two will get married and what's more they'll live happily ever after.
- Doctor: That laddie of yours is outside, isn't he?
- Mr. J. Pritchard: Yes.
- Mrs. Grant: What do you intend to do?
- Doctor: She wants to see him, to say goodbye.
- Mrs. Grant: I'm sorry, I can't allow that.
- Doctor: You'll allow me to deal with this in my own way, Mrs Grant, or you'll get yourself another doctor.
- Mrs. Grant: It's ridiculous, simply encouraging them to make a drama of the whole thing.
- Mr. J. Pritchard: Forbidding them to say goodbye will make much more of a drama, Mrs Grant. Where's the harm?
