The best things come in threes, especially stories. In Western nations, we like a three-act structure in which we set a status quo, watch our heroes fall, and then see them return to greatness. Some of these stories cannot be held within a single movie. For those epics, those monumental narratives, the movie trilogy was born. Trilogies represent some of the best that cinema has to offer, movies that changed the culture and the art form. The trilogy might vary in quality from film to film, but together these three films tell a story that cannot be ignored.
Before we get too far, let’s lay out our criteria. The trilogies chosen here are those intended to be a trilogy, either from the outset or by the end of the third film. Thus we’re including things such as the Toy Story and Indiana Jones trilogies, even though those continued on with further entries.

Barbara Gustern, the Manhattan vocal coach who at 87 years old would teach students nearly every day in her Chelsea apartment before attending their concerts at night, had gained a clientele that included Blondie’s Debbie Harry, avant-garde heroine Diamanda Galás, Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna, Broadway performers, and anyone who wanted to learn how to sing.
On Thursday, Harry responded to the sentencing of Lauren Pazienza, 27, who fatally shoved Gustern and pleaded guilty to a first-degree manslaughter charge. Pazienza will be sentenced to eight years in prison followed by five...

When Metro Boomin closed out the first day of Coachella 2023, The Weeknd showed up at the Sahara Tent to lend a hand on several songs.
The Weeknd first performed his solo songs “Faith,” “Escape from LA,” and “Heartless” before Future joined the artists for “Low Life.” From there, Abel Tesfaye debuted “Double Fantasy,” a song from his upcoming HBO series The Idol. The artists closed the set with “Creepin,” which also featured 21 Savage and Diddy. Check out the star-studded show below.
Apart from a new remix of “Die for You” featuring Ariana Grande, as of late The Weeknd has turned away from music in favor of acting. He’s set to star alongside Jenna Ortega in an as-yet-untitled film, while The Idol — the Sam Levinson-co-created series that’s made headlines for its “trauma porn” storylines — should debut later this year.

Writer-director Jesper Ganslandt has signed with CAA for representation.
Ganslandt made his debut with “Falkenberg Farewell” in 2006. The coming-of-age film followed a group of friends who grew up in the titular town of Falkenberg and spend a last summer there before moving to the big city.
The film debuted at Venice and had a stellar festival run including Toronto, Reykjavik, Tallinn Black Nights and Goteborg. It was nominated for the Nordic Council’s Film Prize, chosen as Sweden’s submission for the Academy Awards, and was nominated in several categories at the Guldbagge Awards in 2007, including best film, best direction and best screenplay. It won the Fipresci Award at the IndieLisboa International Independent Film Festival.
Ganslandt went on to co-direct documentary “The Film I’m No Longer Talking About” (2009), in which a group of friends without much experience decides to make an epic cult movie; and “The Ape” (2009) that followed...

Shep Gordon, the longtime manager of Alice Cooper, also known affectionately as “Supermensch” (the title of a 2013 documentary about him), appeared at the Pollstar Live! conference in Los Angeles Tuesday and shared a revealing story about his former client Raquel Welch. The actress, who died last week at the age of 82, was actually quite prudish, Gordon explained, but “her appeal was sex.” The two worked together for five years straddling the end of the 1970s and beginning of the ’80s, a time when Welch’s career had reached a crossroads.
The solution seemed to be a Las Vegas show, which Ann-Margret had executed successfully, drawing an audience of wives with husbands in tow. Similarly, what man wouldn’t want to see a scantily clad Welch in the flesh? The formula worked, but after a three-year residency at Caesars Palace, Welch’s contract was close to expiring and Gordon had to step in.
