What I remember most about "The Polly Bergen" show was the way she always sang "The Party's Over" at the end of each program. The spotlight beamed down on her pretty face; she would say a few choice words to the audience (both at home and in the studio); then in a forlorn manner gently sing her goodbye melody. I was in my early teens and a big fan of rock 'n' roll, especially Elvis and Chuck Berry, yet I loved to hear Polly Bergen warble this song of sad farewell.
Another special feature of her show through most of its telecast was the appearance of her wonderful father, Bill. He seemed to belong more in an easy chair across from the viewer than on a television screen. Like the Everly Brothers' dad, Ike Everly, Bill was down home all the way and seemed out of place on the TV tube, unlike Polly Bergen and the Everly's, who belonged in the big time entertaining their fans.
I don't recall too many of Polly's guests other than her father. I do remember Dick Van Dyke being on one of her shows, singing with her and the other guests of the evening. My favorite television comedian, Ernie Kovacs, also appeared once. It was a fun way to spend thirty minutes.
