The Schmatterhorn is a play on the famous Matterhorn peak, long a destination of mountain climbers. And the prize of "Cronkites" is obviously a humorous nod to CBS newsman Walter Cronkite.
One of the only Looney Tunes shorts to omit the ending "The Merry Go Round Broke Down" music. Instead, the soundtrack from the short continues over the "That's All Folks!" screen.
The background renditions here are becoming more streamlined and abstract, which mirrored the changing design concepts of the late 50's.
The off-key oompah band music was featured on the album "The Carl Stalling Project Vol. 2: More Music From Warner Bros. Cartoons 1939-1957". It is the track labeled "Bad Swiss Band".
The rescue dog (a send up of the St. Bernard with its cask of warming liquor for stranded travelers) makes what appears to be a shaken (not stirred) martini, five years before the launch (Dr. No) of the James Bond film series...and a year before Sir Ian Fleming first published the novel of the same name.
