The feature version of Ghost of Zorro (a Republic 1949 serial) was released to theaters in 1959 as the second half of a double bill. Like many of the Republic serialized features, the editing was so choppy that it showed a disoriented story line. The 12 chapter serial was reduced to a 58 feature. This not only capitalized on the fame of the Disney TV show which was being seen weekly, but it also gave the small fry (who may not have been around in 1949) an idea of the Saturday afternoon thrills Republic was famous for giving its fans. It also showed an early Clayton Moore who used this film to get the role of the Lone Ranger. Ironically, Republic closed its doors in 1959, no longer able to compete against television serials.
