Sex & Nudity

  • None. Andy Griffith's character is a single father and does go on dates/pursue women from time to time, or in some cases they pursue him. However, no nudity or sex whatsoever is present on the show.
  • A character mentions herpes in one episode, but this is not a reference to the sexual disease.

Violence & Gore

  • A brief fist fight between two men is seen in one of the later seasons.
  • Punching is seen in a few episodes. In one episode, Ron Howard's character is proud for getting a black eye after he refused to keep giving lunch money to a bully. One episode involves the off screen killing of a bird with a sling shot. Spanking is referenced, but never shown.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Andy smokes in some episodes. Other characters are seen smoking occasionally in the background of the street. Some characters smoke, especially characters that are in jail. In one episode Don Knott's character smokes cigars trying to work undercover.
  • Drinking is occasionally seen by adults socially. Otis the town drunk appears drunk in many episodes, and sometimes drinks on screen. A few episodes involve moonshiners.
