Nice intrigue movie with top-notch acting , well paced and suspense enough throughout the surprising tale . A trio of prospectors (Antonio Casas , Luis Prendes , Francisco Morán) seeking for mineral deposits go through the risked mountains ranges of the Andes in Guayaquil , Peru , resulting in unexpected and fateful consequences when one of them falls as he's climbing ; but is it an accident or a crime ? . Then his son Javier Alcaraz (Javier Escrivá), a parapsychology student and doctor investigates his father's death , helped by professor Antonio León (Alberto Dalbés ) and Police inspector Solandes (Antonio Molino Rojo) . The prime suspects are Galvéz (Francisco Morán) and Pablo Laínez (Luis Prendes) , the latter is married to a beautiful wife , Marta (May Heatherly) . Then Lainez discovers Uranium deposits and becomes a wealthy man and buying an impressive castle where our protagonist Javier Alcaráz goes undercover by posing as a scholar to decrypt manuscripts . Javier starts to plot a merciless vengeance against his father's killer and he will stop at nothing to track him down , carrying out a relentless vendetta .

Intriguing and moving film with top-drawer acting all around , the ample plethora of actors give excellent interpretations in this film full of suspense , thrills , chills and nail-biting scenes . An acceptable picture about a crime and its subsequent investigation by a doctor expert on parasychology by analyzing possible suspect people and setting up a complex masquerade . This really well made film , being well narrated , and mostly set at a castle . Tension is slowly but surely built up , as our starring tries to find out his father's murder and how the events happened long time ago when he was in the Peruvian mountains of the Andes . An expertly made , manipulative thriller , one of the most unknown films of the Sixties and sadly failed at the Spanish boxoffice . There are various suspect people , as the main question is to discover the murderer , as director Julio Coll proceeds a hard intrigue with memorable moments , a twisted plot , giving a certain psychological detail studio of some peculiar characters and an unexpected final outcome . Based on an intelligent and twisted screenplay and story by José Germán Huici and director Julio Coll himself. Magnificent acting all over the movie , the ample plethora of actors give excellent interpretations , such as the fine trio of protagonists : Javier Escrivá , Luis Prendes and May Heatherly . Supported by great and familar secondaries as Francisco Morán, Alberto Dalbés, Antonio Molino Rojo, Antonio Casas , María Vico, Concha Goyanes , Cris Huerta and the gorgeous Irán Eory .

It packs an evocative and appropriate cinematography in black and white by Manuel Rojas . Shot on location in castle of Medina del Campo , Santo Domingo de Silos, Burgos, Castilla y León, Burgos, Salas de los Infantes, La Yecla, Burgos, Spain. As well as atmospheric and adequate musical score by José Solá . The motion picture was competently made by Julio Coll. Filmmaker Julio Coll had a long career , being expert on ¨Noir film¨ , he started collaborating in more than 30 scripts , as the classic ¨Apartado De Correos 1001¨(50) by Julio Salvador . His best works were at the beginning his career as ¨Nunca Es Demasiado Tarde¨ , ¨Carcel De Cristal¨, ¨Un Vaso De Whisky¨ and ¨Los Cuervos¨ in which there is social drama , intriguing elements and solid dramatic narrative . In 1958 he created the production company ¨Juro Film¨ with whom he writes , produces and directs his films . As he shoots ¨La Cuarta Ventana¨ (61) , ¨Ensayo General De La Muerte¨ and ¨Los Muertos No Perdonan¨ (63) . Julio , subsequently , made international co-productions as ¨Fuego¨ with Barry Sullivan , ¨Comando De Asesinos¨ with Peter Van Eyck , ¨Persecución Hasta Valencia¨ with Tom Tryon and the historical ¨La Araucana¨ with Elsa Martinelli and based on Luis De Camoens book until his death at 73 . Being his best film ¨Pyro¨or "Phantom of the Ferris Wheel" or ¨Pyro... The Thing Without a Face¨(1964) with Barry Sullivan , Martha Hayer and Soledad Miranda .Rating : 6.5/10 . Better than average .
