Crusty old tycoon Walter Andrews wagers Thunder Corporation president Herbert Wilson that he can build a fortune from nothing just as he did in his youth. With the help of young pilot Pat Burns, Walter goes to a small town, gets a job at a gas station, and proceeds to prove his point.

The situation becomes more problematic than anticipated when his coworkers elect him shop steward and expect him to bargain for them against management in a union matter.
