Great Disney TV show

I just saw this on the Disney Channel and I thought it was great. It's basically one of those 1960s Walt Disney Presents about an Airedale Terrier named Hector, who belongs to a First Mate on a cargo ship. Hector is a smart dog, he dose tricks and stuff like that. Anyways a guy kidnaps Hector in Lisbon Portugal. Then his master is force to leave him behind because he can't find him in time. So a fellow sailor from another ship finds Hector and plans to return him. But on the way to being returned, the sailor and Hector get mixed up in a jewel theft. Anyways Hector and the sailor help the police find the jewel thieves in Barcelona Spain and then Hector becomes famous. Then finally Hector is reunited with his master. It's a really great Disney two part series, if you want to see it just look on DisneyChannel.com to see when it's going to be showing on Vault Disney.

Hector, the Airedale
maddock_dallas1 August 2005
The Airedale that appears in this movie is on My Airedales pedigree papers and I first saw the movie when KD was only 3 months old. My sister was also watching the movie and called me and explained that KD was the descendant of Hector. When I received my AKC papers it was on them. This is why I am trying to get a copy of the movie.

Does anyone know how I can find out the next time it will be on the Disney channel or where I can buy a copy of the movie? My sister raised Airedales for 14 years and her female passed away this summer, (she was the descendant of Hector) and this is why I would like to get the movie.

Any help out there? Thank you, Karyn

A masterpiece of modern canine sea tales...
LinusQ18 December 2002
The Ballad of Hector, the Stowaway Dog is a true gem. It is a brilliant mix of canine hijinx, dastardly jewel thieves, and swashbuckling sea-faring. The story follows a heroic Airesdale terrier (named Hector) through a series of oceanic adventures. The dog unwittingly has a fortune in jewels around his neck, sewn right into his collar! It is a classic tale of good versus evil for the entire family. It, sadly, has been played very few times in the past few years due to lack of interest on behalf of the Disney Channel. I, honestly, would give my right arm to see this two part series again. Its catchy theme song has not left my mind since I viewed the film. "Who is Hector?" the song goes. "He's one heck of a seadog! Who is Hector? That salty stowaway pup!" The Sherman brothers (who did the music for Mary Poppins) magnificently show that they can undertake any task that the Disney company gives to them. The series is a fine piece of work from the mid-1960s and I hope one day to find a copy of this film on DVD or VHS. In conclusion, the Ballad of Hector, the Stowaway Dog is a worthwhile treat for all ages (and breeds) alike.
