Help me relive my youth!
lankinboys20 July 2009
If anyone knows where I can get a copy, in any format, of this film, I'd be eternally grateful. My first experience of Noel Coward -- which changed my life!! lankinboys@rogers.com

I've seen many other productions of the play over the years, including a wonderful one at the Stratford Festival here in Ontario with Brian Bedford as Gary, but none have come close to O'Toole's wry, cynical, but warm-hearted characterization. And the supporting cast is brilliant as well -- Honor Blackman smolders as Liz, Tim Preece is crazed and touching as Roland Maule, and everyone else shows just why English rep companies are the world's leading training grounds for actors. Brilliant

Not in the Coward Collection
fubared19 June 2012
This is NOT the performance contained in the Coward Collection DVD. That is a live theatrical performance with Donald Sinden and Dinah Sheridan, which, by the way, I cannot find anywhere listed in the IMDb. That video is good, but not exceptional. It's the usual facile Coward comedy with no depth, and the performances, it being live theatre, our over-the-top. And it's hard to picture Sinden as a 'romantic idol', consider he has no physical charm or appeal. O'Toole would have been better. It's a pity Cary Grant never did it. He would have been perfect. The play itself is facile and dated as is much of Coward these days. The characters have no depth. This is purely farce...and not very funny at that.
