This film and its sequel, The Over-the-Hill Gang Rides Again (1970), were both intended to be pilots for ABC series, but neither was picked up.
Three of the all-star cast (Walter Brennan, Andy Devine and Jack Elam) are members of the Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Honoring Western performers who have contributed to the making and preservation of the stories and legends of the West, the gallery also displays a presentation of the museum's extensive collection of memorabilia, including the John Wayne collection of personal firearms and artwork.
Don Wilbanks appears as Big Red Connors. Edgar Buchanan co-starred in the Hopalong Cassidy series as sidekick Red Connors.
