Fernando Fernán Gómez was dissatisfied with the final film, which he considered childish, but ironically forbidden for children.
The characters are inspired by the comic Mortadelo y Filemón, by Francisco Ibáñez: They are two clumsy detectives who work in the same agency with a similar relationship and chemistry. Salomón, like Mortadelo, frequently dresses up and, like Filemón in his early days, smokes a pipe. The opening credits and decoration of Club 74 in the Lichtenstein style also refer to the comics.
