The Company of Wolves is an homage to Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. In both films, a young girl experiences a loosely connected series of beautiful and perilous dreams inspired by her first menstruation, set in and around her European village and filled with erotic symbolism, predatory folkloric monsters, a shapeshifting Granny, and images of fruit, herbs, flowers, fountains, coffins, weddings, tears, trees, and blood.
