- Gidget finally gets married and rebels against the social caste system in her new husband's company.
- After more than a year of engagement, and after Jeff (Moondoggie) secures a good job with a large company, he and Gidget set a date for their wedding. After a blissful but all too short honeymoon they set off across country to Florida where Jeff's job is waiting for him. Gidget soon discovers, however, that the companies influence extends too far into the personal lives of its employees and she sets about trying to correct things, much to the horror of the company's management.—Kevin Steinhauer <K.Steinhauer@BoM.GOV.AU>
- Frances Lawrence and Jeff Stevens, better known within their southern California surfing social circle as Gidget and Moondoggie respectively, are moving onto the next phase of their relationship. After sixteen years of her own education, Gidget has a job teaching first grade at an open school. Moondoggie, just decommissioned from the Air Force with an engineering degree in hand, has just been offered a job with World Wide Dynamics in Wood Lake, Florida. As such, they decide to end their so far lengthy engagement to get married, with Gidget quitting her job to move to Wood Lake with Jeff, who will be the family breadwinner. Married life, added with life in Wood Lake in general, is not quite what they expect. Moondoggie has to work all the time to impress his boss, Otis Ramsey, leaving Gidget largely on her own without a husband present. And life in Wood Lake is dominated by World Wide, which basically owns the town. Furthermore, World Wide is all about conformity and class structure, where everyone in one's own social strata is the same, down to the furniture and color scheme of the houses provided by the company, the social classes which do not mix. Even what Gidget considers the most innocuous of actions to shake things up in the structure of Wood Lake and by association at World Wide Dynamics could very well cost Moondoggie his job, no matter how hard or well he works. Moondoggie, on the other hand, may be solely focused on that upward trajectory within World Wide to support his family regardless of Gidget's feelings about the regimented life.—Huggo
