The distribution company Kino Lorber recently launched an interesting Blu-ray line called Kino Cult, and so far they have released the 1985 sci-fi Western Alien Outlaw, the Bettie Page double feature Teaserama and Varietease, the 1985 horror film The Dark Power, the 1974 drama Drifter, the 1974 Jess Franco horror film Lorna the Exorcist, the 1973 Jess Franco crime thriller Sinner: The Secret Diary of a Nymphomaniac, and the 1985 Clive Barker adaptation Underworld (a.k.a. Transmutations). Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that five more Kino Cult Blu-ray releases are set for August 20th, and there’s a theme to this batch: they’re all “nature run amok” horror movies! Most of them are movies I love to watch, too. Here’s the line-up: The Food of the Gods, Empire of the Ants, Frogs, Squirm, and Kingdom of the Spiders. Each one is available for pre-order on Amazon, and each of these...

Has Harry Ambrose finally found some semblance of inner peace?
The series finale of USA Network’s The Sinner seemed to suggest that much: that the retired detective would be Ok once he left Hanover Island. Though it seemed unlikely that he would reunite with ex-girlfriend Sonya — she didn’t answer his call earlier in the episode — the Percy Muldoon case had taught him that he needed to find a way to cope with his lingering guilt surrounding the Season 3 death of Jamie Burns, which had continued to eat at him throughout his time on the island.

Piles of dead bodies, fountains of blood and an actual army of Chucky dolls? Yeah, it’s been a wild season.
In Tuesday’s season finale of Chucky, worlds collided as Andy and Kyle landed in Hackensack to help Jake and co. deal with their deadly doll situation. As Tiffany and Nica/Chucky moved full steam ahead with their plan to unleash swarms of killer dolls all over the country, the Good Guys (pun intended) headed to the mayor’s banquet to try and stop the impending death and destruction.

I’m beginning to think Harry Ambrose is too old for this ish.
The Sinner‘s Season 4 opener picks up a year after the Jamie Burns case, and the since-retired detective (again played by Bill Pullman) is still haunted by visions of the night he shot and killed the sociopath. (He continues to suffer from post-traumatic stress, and he’s only recently weaned off of antidepressants.) He and his partner Sonya (fellow returnee Jessica Hecht) travel to Hanover Island in northern Maine for some much needed rest and relaxation, but an unexpected tragedy occurs almost immediately upon their arrival. Chernin Entertainment has expanded its executive leadership with three key hires: NBCUniversal veteran Bill McGoldrick, Starz exec Juan Alfonso , and Fox 21 legal pro Vibiana Molina.
McGoldrick has been named executive vice president of film and television, with Alfonso serving as senior vice president over those two portfolios. The three senior roles will report into Jeno Topping, Chernin’s president of film and TV who announced the additions on Thursday.
The expansion comes as the company ramps up development and production, having closed several key content deals in the past year including a multi-year first-look partnership with Spotify to adapt original podcasts for television, film, and digital video. They also partnered with Award-winning producer Connor Schell, former senior executive at ESPN, to produce high-end unscripted.

Jesse Malin may not drive much in his Lower East Side stomping grounds, but the New York City songwriter often puts his listeners in the passenger seat. Malin returns to the car in his new song “State of the Art,” an upbeat roots-rock...

Why do we love detective series so much? Perhaps our little human brains are attracted to mystery. What is our experience with the world at large if not one big mystery to uncover? Or perhaps it’s the promise of answers within that mystery that compels us so. Certainly those are big factors but one aspect of detective stories’ appeal can’t be overlooked: the detective themselves.
From a nuts and bolts storytelling perspective, there is probably no more ready-made protagonist than a good detective. A detective is like the viewer themselves – thrust into unfamiliar circumstances and then asked to use their skills of observation and deduction to figure that situation out. The appeal of a good detective story is truly elemental. And that’s why you should be watching USA Network’s The Sinner, all three seasons of which are now on Netflix.

There’s no question that Betty Broderick did the crime. But the Season 2 finale of Dirty John is more concerned with whether she’ll do the time.
On Tuesday’s episode of USA Network’s true-crime anthology, Betty stands trial for the murders of ex-husband Dan and his new wife, Linda, which she doesn’t deny committing. Now that a jury is deciding her fate, though, it’s less a question of whether Betty did kill them, and more of whether she meant to kill them.

USA Network is pumping the brakes on its Evel Knievel limited series. Milo Ventimiglia was set to portray the famed daredevil in a new drama — appropriately titled Evel — but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the production is no longer moving forward.
Production on the drama, which was reportedly set to chronicle Knievel’s infamous 1974 Snake River Canyon jump, was halted on March 13 as part of the industry-wide coronavirus shutdown. Now, due to scheduling conflicts with Ventimiglia and writer Etan Frankel, USA is parting ways with the project.

Without question, Jody Lee Lipes is one of the most underrated cinematographers in the business. Just looking at his resume, which consists of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Bluebird, Manchester by the Sea, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Tiny Furniture, and Trainwreck on the big screen, as well as episodes of episodes of Girls and The Sinner (also directing) on the small screen. Lipes is a uniquely diverse talent, seen even more so this weekend when his work shooting the new Derek Cianfrance project I Know This Much Is True hits HBO. All this made a chance to jump on the phone with him for an interview an easy choice. For those not aware, I Know This Much Is True is a high profile miniseries, based on the novel of the same name by Wally Lamb. The IMDb synopsis, which does not do it justice, at all, is as follows:...
