Quotes

  • [last lines]

    Grady : Where you goin'?

Lane : Where the hell do you suppose? To rob a train!

    Jesse : Rob a train?

Grady : It's something to do!

  • The Pinkerton Man : Her name is Lilly, with two "L's." Matt Lowe was never married. Better luck next time!

    Jesse : Lilly.

    Grady : With two "L's."

Jesse : One of 'em must stand for "liar."

  • [First scene -- Lane has summoned his gun-toting friends to a rendezvous]

Grady : Alright, what's it all about, Jess?

Jesse : Beats me. All Lane said was meet him here at the train stop. It'd be worth it.

Calhoun : To him or us?

Grady : Oh, what difference does it make? It's something to do, isn't it?

  • Grady : All I'm sayin' is, don't get old. You'll live to regret it.

  • Grady : [Repeated line]  Somethin' to do!

  • Grady : Just like old times, huh?

Lane : Like hell, it is.

  • Grady : Any women in this town?

    Jesse : One.

Grady : Good. We can fight over her.

  • Grady : Hot damn! That feels good.

  • Lane : Grady, where did you find these two peckerwoods?

Grady : They're standing up to you. That should prove something.

Lane : I don't need them standing up to me. I need them standing alongside of me.

  • Grady : Don't you think it's about time?

Lane : All right. A train robbery...

  • Grady : That's the trouble with always running around wild. You get kind of starved for female attention.

  • Jesse : I've been mad at you ever since I've known you.

Grady : Jesse, that's 10 years. That's an awful long time to go around hating a man.

Jesse : I never said I hated you.

Grady : Well, there ain't exactly any love between us.

Jesse : I damn sure ain't sweet, if that's what you mean.

  • Jesse : Oh, Grady, you're a pain in the neck.

Grady : Oh, hell, everybody knows that.

  • Lane : Get the whiskey.

Grady : Whiskey? What are you trying to do? Save her life or get her drunk?

  • Jesse : What about your women?

    Grady : What about them?

Jesse : Don't tell me you don't run them as much as you used to.

  • Jesse : Lane says this is the closest way out. Besides, we know the ground.

Grady : Yeah, we could get buried in it, too.

Jesse : Hell, a man can't live forever.

Grady : Not around Lane, he can't. Oh, hell, come to think of it, it's the best way, anyway.

    Jesse : What's that?

Grady : You and me, Jesse, we can't get old. What the hell use are we going to be to anybody in a rocking chair?

Jesse : That's a long ways down the road, Grady.

Grady : The hell it is.

Jesse : You're not one damn day older than you was the first time I ever met you.

Grady : Well, not outside, I ain't, but it's inside that counts. You know, time was I could get drunk for a week, maybe two. Now I go on a bender for six or seven days and I get the blind staggers so bad, I gotta get me to my bed. Yeah, when a man can't hold his liquor, that's the first sign.

  • Lane : [to Mrs. Lowe]  Walk out there, where they can get a good look at you. Go on.

    [Mrs. Lowe walks out there]

Grady : It rubs me the wrong way, hiding behind a woman, if you ask me.

    Lane : Nobody did.

  • Grady : Hey, Lane!

Lane : Quit worrying about that damn mule!

Grady : It's not that. It's the woman!
