Not to be confused with the Fred Dryer show

This was the pilot episode for a 70s TV show starring James Franciscus. An amazing minute and a half intro brings the viewer up to speed very quickly - lawyer James Hunter (Franciscus) is framed for embezzlement by his mysterious boss Ebersole and spends 8 years in prison. Released, Hunter tries to find out why he was set up with help from a cop (Ned Beatty) and high-end prostitute Marty Shaw (Linda Evans). This specific episode leads Hunter to a military reunion celebrating one Gen. Meeker (Broderick Crawford), who was Ebersole's commanding officer in Korea.

For some reason Karl Lorber released this 60 minute TV feature (53 minutes without commercials) as a one off VHS tape, which is odd because of its open ending. From the info here on the IMDb, this show ended up being a mid-season replacement and, while 12 episodes were shot, only 8 aired. Sadly, I don't have access to rest of series so the mystery behind Ebersole (only shown in a Dr. Claw hand-answers-phone fashion) will remain exactly that. The plot for the ensuing series - with Hunter and Shaw being US Government agents - completely contradicts all of the on-goings in this pilot. Tom Gries directed and produced.
