George "Buck" Flower not only acts in this movie as one of the homicide detectives investigating the murders committed by Millie Perkins, but also served as the film's casting director. In fact, Flower cast his own daughter Verkina to play young Molly in the disturbing flashback sequences featured in the movie.
One of the 72 films banned in Britain as a "Video Nasty" during the early 1980s. The film was finally released completely uncut in the UK in 2006.
Screenwriter Robert Thom patterned the character of Molly after his onetime wife Millie Perkins. For example, Perkins' real-life father was a sea captain just like her dad is in the movie.
The poster art of the witch holding a severed head was taken from the cover of Warren Comic's VAMPIRELLA #11 (May 1971).
This film originally received an X rating from the MPAA. Several cuts had to be made in order to secure an R rating.
