- One of the main characters in particlar is a womaniser, but sex is never discussed.

- The vets sometimes sustain injuries while working, such as getting kicked by a horse or chased by pigs. There is very little blood, however.
- James once damages his arm in a car accident.

- The vets often have to give injections to animals they come to see.
- The vets (James in particular) sometimes help cows deliver calves. The pre-work is often graphic, but the birth itself mostly happens off-screen.

- An early episode deals with a ghost apparition - the spirit of a monk appears outside at night and frightens James. However, it turns out to be Tristan in disguise.
