A bonded courier
bkoganbing17 February 2021
The 3000 Mile Chase is what Cliff DeYoung and Blair Brown are on escorting Glenn Ford and wife Priscilla Pointer are on. A journey cross country from southern California to New York to bring Ford unharmed to testify as a witness against mob boss Tito Vandis. Of course Tito has a lot of his nasty employes looking to see he doesn't make it.

This looked very much like a pilot series for Cliff DeYoung who was up and coming during the 70s. DeYoung is a most resourceful fellow against some steep odds in the mission. DeYoung is a bonded courier who usually delivers inanimate items to their assigned destination. This one is a special assignment.

Might have worked as a series.

Warning: Spoilers
Cross-country chases or races dominated the cinema in the 70's, and TV followed suit with this entertaining non-stop piece of action. Glenn Ford is a witness in a mob trial and needs to be escorted cross country to the trial, and at the orders of the boss (Titos Vandis), hit men are on his trail. Cliff De Young plays a secret courier usually transports goods, but now he's transporting people, accompanied by Blair Brown, along with Ford's proud and strong wife Priscilla Pointer who turns out wants no part of being threatened with murder by the mob.

The group must change vehicles every so often, going from car to school bus back to another car of a different make. The mob hit men are on their trail throughout, and at one point their car goes over the embankment, having avoided a cliff earlier by crashing into another car on the road. So there's lots of fast speedy action, and after Pointer decides she's had enough, Ford must reveal the truth that DeYoung was unaware of. This is a good obvious pilot but I don't see lots of stories to stretch this out to a series, so as a one off TV movie, it's great.

Warning: Spoilers
An acceptable TV product, as we saw so many in the 70's. I won't repeat the topic told in the plot line above. Nothing really new here, but I repeat very well done. No boredom in this entertaining tale, not a road movie as we could expect for a story that takes place all along the USA, through motorways and wilderness, with a bunch of killers who tack down a group of people, the good ones.

The character development is interesting, especially the ending, which is not expectable. We even can feel some sadness.

Very cute TVM.

The director, Russ Mayberry gave us many other items. I guess there are all worth.
