I caught most of the episodes when they originally aired, and I agree that there seemed to be something mystical about the show. I've always been fascinated by wolves, and thought at the time a show that endowed a human with the insights and instincts of a wolf was brilliant. Despite the less-than-brilliant writing, for me, the show was captivating, sort of like "Dark Shadows" used to be. There were a number of subplots attempted ... fears that Lucan might revert to wolf, Lucan relentlessly being pursued by the law, Lucan's attempt to find his real birth parents, something about having witnessed a drug deal gone wrong, and his ongoing friendship with Dr. Don Hoagland, who was responsibile for socializing the wolfboy. It's a shame the series only lasted part of single season, and even then was often preempted for sports events. I regret that the series never appeared again as reruns. I did happen to catch the pilot movie on VHS, which I pulled off the air via my VCR at 2:00 a.m. over one of the oddball local Chicago TV stations. That was several years ago. I've since transferred it for myself to DVD. Since that time, I've picked up bootleg DVDs of all the episodes: Lucan-pilot, The Search, How Do You Run Forever, One Punch Wolfson, Brother Wolf, The Creature Beyond The Door, Thunder God Gold, Nightmare, and The Pariah. I hope the series is legitimately resurrected sometime on DVD.

Now, I don't know about the 42 year old guy in the previous comment, but this 34 year old remembers this show with a different perception. Sure, Lucan adapts quickly to human relationships with the skill of a cross between Walker, Texas Ranger, and Dr. Phil, but I think the 70's "I'm o.k. you're o.k." type of a philosophy shapes the mentality of the show in the sense that we can all get along (in concept)even though we have our differences, and believe me Lucan, as a character, is sure different,alright.

However, that's not why I watched the show,especially since I was only 6 years old when it premiered. As a 6 year old,in 1977,belive it or not,I was patient enough to see what would happen, as far as any "superpowers" were concerned.I would always remember the t.v. spot where they would show Lucan's eyes going wild,,and give a little "wolfy" growl. It turns out the only "special effects" on the show were the applying of his brown contact lenses.But it was the spirit of the show that attracted me to it,and it still does today.

I happen to own the episodes:"Brother Wolf," "Can You Run Forever?" "One Punch Wolfson," "The Pariah" "The Search," and "Creature from Beyond the Door." And I have to say, the air of the show is not so much about a "wolf" man with superpowers, as much as a guy who was given bad breaks, and how people can be really mean to someone who is just a little different, as well as being blind to the facts.It follows a similar formula to The Fugitive,Kung-Fu,The Incredible Hulk,etc. I know it's just a t.v. show, but for a "non-caring" Gen-Xer, I happen to care about this piece of (in this writer's opinion) well-crafted dramatic television.After all, Lucan was a sweet, polite, and helpful person, unlike many of the goons we see on t.v. today. So I second the previous writer's comment,however: "Move on,Brother Wolf! MOVE ON!!"

Kevin Brophy was a truly great actor held prisoner of horrid writing. LUCAN was a great concept. However LUCAN evolved to understand the complex aspects of interpersonal relationships way way way too quickly to be believable. I am severely disabled with brain damage that made me very wild and, without any sense of humanity, morals or conscience. I am now 42 years old and, only after a lifetime of the MOST INTENSE medical and, psychological help am I now in my FIRST LONG TERM JOB mainly because I could not master the subtly of interpersonal human relations.

LUCAN to have been raised by wolves became a professional and, so at ease with people. He maneuvered through the minefield of human relations with the skill of a seasoned psychologist. Only intermittently did the writers seem to remember hey this guy is supposed to have been raised by wolves. Instead of the warm and sensitive tale of a guy raised by wolves trying to understand himself and his place in human society that this story could have been... It seems to have been trying to be a far fetched fairytale about a super hero fugitive type with acute super human wolf senses that saves poor ladies and, is a defender of the weak as he tries to find his parents. The movie was a strong start that lost its way.

LUCAN was about a man learning to come to grips with having been brought up by wolves. Had Lucan progressed more slowly to in finding embracing and, defining his own unique brand of humanity this show would have met its high aspirations. It flopped only because it was prematurely murdered by the committee of knuckleheads that third to make LUCAN to many things other than a guy raised by wolves.

I loved the movie LUCAN and the show LUCAN only because the heart, the love the soul, the compassion, the conviction that Kevin Brophy breathed and, invested into this character LUCAN despite all the bad writing was enough to inspire me to go from being a guy widely considered retard when I was young and, the show first was on the air, to a 42 year old man working who went thorough college with a 4.0 average. LUCAN inspired me to never give up no matter what I tried and, kept trying. The Book says LUCAN got his name in an accident of thinking he was saying I CAN. Well LUCAN convinced me I CAN yes it took 22 years but I CAN and, did and, for that I thank GOD for Kevin Brophy's role in the show and movies LUCAN.

Far from the dumbest show I have ever seen. If you have real heart, detainment and, insight into the true human soul these were the best movies and, TV ever.... Thanks Again LUCAN LIVE FOREVER MY WOLF BROTHER!

The Wolf Of ALPHASPACE

I've only seen two episodes in this TV series, but the ones I saw totally captured me. I have been trying to get local TV stations to show the series without success. They claim they can't find anything about this show! Now I can point them to this web space! Lucan was raised by wolves and somehow this gives him super powers. When he's enraged his eyes glow red and he goes berserk, a one man army. In one episode I saw he was coerced into becoming a boxer, and was titled something like "ONE HIT WONDER", because that's all it took when he became enraged enough, to knock out his opponents. Of course the plot thickens when he is commanded to take a DIVE so some mobsters can make a bundle, since everyone is betting on him winning. This means he has to keep his unnatural rage in check while being hammered on in the ring.

When watching these shows one can't help but feel someone sat down and tried to find out what possible super powers wolves MIGHT have... and give the super version to Lucan. Among powers he had were keen eyesight in darkness, allowing him to identify creatures at a distance which was very reminiscent of "Six Million Dollar Man". In fact, the show might be compared to many super hero TV series, like the incredible "Hulk" and "Bionic Woman", but in both cases the reason for their super powers is better explained, and possibly more "reasonable".

Like in the TV series "Kung Fu", each show had a moral message, or a social comment, for example how WE, the supposedly "civilized people, can seem more like animals than someone who was raised by them.

I'd love to see MORE shows like this one! 5/5 No question.
