- An aged World War II veteran and a young street punk violently meet and discover more in common than anticipated.
- Tommy is an aged World War II veteran who must sometimes pawn his medals between pension checks. He meets a young punk called Lennie when he violently stops the kid from robbing a Poppylady. Lennie and his gang mug Tommy later in revenge, but Lenny is wounded in the face when Tommy fights back before being beaten unconscious. They find themselves in the same hospital ward and Lennie overhears Tommy's nightmare of being wounded in the Dieppe Raid. Fleeing to avoid being identified when his victim regains consciousness, Lennie is plagued with regret for his action. He decide to try to make amends, but Tommy might not be in the mood to listen.—Kenneth Chisholm (kchishol@rogers.com)
- Remembrance Day is approaching. Despite that, Tommy, a WWII veteran, needs to pawn his war medals, including one for bravery in the field, to make ends meet, at least until his next pension check arrives. In trying to save a woman selling poppies for Remembrance Day, Tommy gets into a physical altercation with Lennie, one of the street youths harassing that woman. Lennie and his friends have little to no knowledge of and thus respect for the poppy and Remembrance Day. As Tommy got the better of Lennie in that altercation, Lennie and his friends vow revenge. After their next physical encounter, Lennie and Tommy spend some time together out of circumstance, but a circumstance of which Tommy is unaware. In getting to know Tommy's situation past and present, Lennie begins to understand the true wrongs he's committed against who he saw previously as just a meddling old man.—Huggo
