The movie takes place around a group of men returning to the Army for a refresher training month, in Sweden called "Repmånad". This type of training was normal for countries with conscription armies.
Sweden reformed its army into a regular army in the mid 2000's and has not had a refresher training month since the late 1990's.
Several scenes were shot at the (then) active Upplands Regiment S1 with real conscripts as extras. It specialized in communication and information systems support for Armed Forces until it was disbanded in 2006.
The first time Captain "Beethoven" is shown playing the violin he plays "Danny Boy".
In an interview Ted Åström, playing Larsson who keeps being ridiculed and picked on by the others, revealed that Janne Carlsson (Lövgren) treated him the same way between takes to keep the tension and hard feelings between them alive.
