Naram Garam Raat...This title song reused a portion of the hook line of the title song of "Golmaal" (1979). Both films were directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, featured actor Amol Palekar and had the composer-lyricist combination of R.D. Burman and Gulzar.
The on-screen chemistry between Utpal Dutt and Amol Palekar in the movie 'Golmaal' was so much praised by the audience, that Hrishikesh Mukherjee had brought the duo again in this movie. The plot is same, i.e. of confusion, which leaves Utpal Dutt shocked in the end. In Golmaal, he was psychic for moustache, and in this movie, for astrology. A few dialogues and sequences are also same. Even the cast (not whole) is repeated.
The producer was not happy with Swaroop Sampat's voice. They got her voiced dubbed by another artiste in several scenes.
RDB in an interview said that "Sagar kinare" was adapted from "Rahen na rahen hum" from Mamta, which in turn Roshan had adapted from "Thandi Hawayen" from Naujawan, MD-SDB and Yeh Hi Hain Tamanna from Aap Ki Parchhaiyan. The song "Kahan Tha Jo Tumne" from Pyar Ka Taraaana" was also used from this. 'Hamen raastonki zarurat nahin hai from Naram Garam was also a inspiration
