Trivia

Whilst shooting in Kolkata for a song in a stadium. Neetu Singh started crying, who had recently got engaged and didn't want to be away from Rishi Kapoor. The phones in Kolkata weren't working and Rishi was upset that he couldn't get through to Neetu. Amitabh Bachchan asked Neetu why she was crying. Neetu said, she wanted to go back.' Amitabh called the producer, asked him to book Neetu's ticket back to Mumbai and said they would manage the song without Neetu. The whole song was changed. This is the reason why Neetu is in half of the song and then disappears.

During the the song 'Saara Zamaana', the light bulb outfit went on and off via a switch which was firmly placed in Amitabh Bachchan's hand. He had to press the switch on-off in tune with the beat of the song. The mastermind behind this idea of the outfit was Amitabh Bachchan himself.

Neetu Singh had earlier worked with Amitabh Bachchan both as a leading lady and as a co-star in films like Kasme Vaade, Adalat, Kabhi Kabhi, Amar Akbar Anthony and hence this was perhaps the last movie with Amitabh and she was very familiar with Amithab , hence as her first lines in this movie were "Dekho Kishen, koi aa gaya hai." she was so flustered and said, "Dekho Amit, koi aa gaya hai." The director intervened and stopped the shooting by telling Neetu he isn't called Amit.

On completion of 36 years of "Yaarana" on Monday, megastar Amitabh Bachchan got nostalgic and said that the 1981 film still resounds among the polity of the nation."'Yaraana' completes 36 years.. What a time we had making this film..It was a scream..The locations the co-artists the hilarious and at times intense moments.. But eventually ending up in a film that still resounds among the polity of the nation.. Particularly the music," Amitabh wrote on his blog. The 75-year-old said it was his idea to shoot the popular song "Sara zamana" in a stadium in Kolkata"Most talked about of course was the song with the lit jacket, which was my idea and the location to shoot it in Kolkata at the Netaji Subhas Stadium recently constructed then, was also my input"."The stadium packed beyond limits, the police and the forces having a tough time controlling the crowds and an altercation with the forces and the crowd member resulting in the audience ripping the cemented seats of the stadium and throwing it in the bowl of the arena, resulting in our leading lady getting extreme anxiety pangs and insisting on leaving the location, in tears and going back to Mumbai," he said.Amitabh said that matters became worse when the car carrying him and Neetu broke down."And to make matters worse, when we came out in our cars to go back to our hotel, around 20,000 excited fans ran along with us and surrounded the car carrying Neetu ji and myself.. And then the worst happened.. the car broke down and refused to start.. the police contingent came alongside, the police van backed into us and asked us to step out and step into the van for protection, but it was an impossible task," he said."So, as we sat inside, pummelled by the fans around the car, something strange happened .. the fans realising that the car had broken down, virtually lifted the car off the ground and pushed lifted it to hotel.. What a moment ... could never thank the fans enough and express gratitude for their love," he added.

The dubbing of Silsila was another story all together. Amitabh is usually fast with his dubbing. But for Silsila is was reported he took his time. The first day onward he did the dubbing for a hour. But after that he started canceling the dubbing causing delays. Some times he was not in the mood. Somedays his voice would not be okay. It was only later Yash Chopra realized what the issues were. Amitabh was the Bombay distributor for Yaarana. The film was completed 2 years prior, but it was stuck in a litigation and finally was cleared for release. It was on Amitabh's insistence that Yaarana was re shot for 30 days. This was done to improve the film and make it fresh . The release date was set for July 31,1981. Amitabh did not want the release of Silsila to effect Yaarana. To delay Silsila,Amitabh was reportedly delaying the dubbing .Yash was reportedly hurt and stated had Amitabh told him about the situation, he would have postponed Silsila to help him . Eventually Silsila was moved from July 31,1981 to August 14, 1981.

All of the six songs in the movie were sung by male playback singers. Mohammad Rafi sang one song while Kishore Kumar sang the rest. No female playback singers were used, which is odd for a Bollywood movie with six songs.
