On completion of 36 years of "Yaarana" on Monday, megastar Amitabh Bachchan got nostalgic and said that the 1981 film still resounds among the polity of the nation."'Yaraana' completes 36 years.. What a time we had making this film..It was a scream..The locations the co-artists the hilarious and at times intense moments.. But eventually ending up in a film that still resounds among the polity of the nation.. Particularly the music," Amitabh wrote on his blog. The 75-year-old said it was his idea to shoot the popular song "Sara zamana" in a stadium in Kolkata"Most talked about of course was the song with the lit jacket, which was my idea and the location to shoot it in Kolkata at the Netaji Subhas Stadium recently constructed then, was also my input"."The stadium packed beyond limits, the police and the forces having a tough time controlling the crowds and an altercation with the forces and the crowd member resulting in the audience ripping the cemented seats of the stadium and throwing it in the bowl of the arena, resulting in our leading lady getting extreme anxiety pangs and insisting on leaving the location, in tears and going back to Mumbai," he said.Amitabh said that matters became worse when the car carrying him and Neetu broke down."And to make matters worse, when we came out in our cars to go back to our hotel, around 20,000 excited fans ran along with us and surrounded the car carrying Neetu ji and myself.. And then the worst happened.. the car broke down and refused to start.. the police contingent came alongside, the police van backed into us and asked us to step out and step into the van for protection, but it was an impossible task," he said."So, as we sat inside, pummelled by the fans around the car, something strange happened .. the fans realising that the car had broken down, virtually lifted the car off the ground and pushed lifted it to hotel.. What a moment ... could never thank the fans enough and express gratitude for their love," he added.
Whilst shooting in Kolkata for a song in a stadium. Neetu Singh started crying, who had recently got engaged and didn't want to be away from Rishi Kapoor. The phones in Kolkata weren't working and Rishi was upset that he couldn't get through to Neetu. Amitabh Bachchan asked Neetu why she was crying. Neetu said, she wanted to go back.' Amitabh called the producer, asked him to book Neetu's ticket back to Mumbai and said they would manage the song without Neetu. The whole song was changed. This is the reason why Neetu is in half of the song and then disappears.
When director rakesh kumar wanted to make this film, amitabh was busy with other films, then rakesh kumar, one day saw Amitabh"s diary and saw that Amitabh is free before 8 am morning, so the maker convined amitabh to shoot for him daily from 7am morning to 8am till the film was complete. So this film was shot daily for about one hour. In the lp record of yarana only male singers mohdrafi & kishore kumar have sung all songs of the film.
Due to Neetu Singhs unavailability to dub a few scenes, Rekha was called upon to finish her dubbing work.
The scene where Amitabh Bachchan attempts to learn how to dance {But purposely starts a fight with everyone else dancing},has a instrumental song. The song is Santa Esmeralda's - "The House Of The Rising Sun" - The 14 minute version. They used the opening hook of the song and the middle instrumental part. The song was later sampled by Missin Linx for the song "What It Is".
During the the song 'Saara Zamaana', the light bulb outfit went on and off via a switch which was firmly placed in Amitabh Bachchan's hand. He had to press the switch on-off in tune with the beat of the song. The mastermind behind this idea of the outfit was Amitabh Bachchan himself.
