Sex & Nudity

  • A man is shown attacking/groping a woman in the beginning, but is thwarted.

Violence & Gore

  • Many choreographed Kung-Fu fights. Several characters are killed (non-graphically) during these. Sharp weapons sometimes draw small amounts of blood, one character is badly beaten and has a very bloody face. A few bruises here or there.
  • 2 Children are shown sleeping and it's implied that they are dead (poisoned). A character hangs herself, and we see her dangling legs; Her white face is visible when she's taken down. A character cuts his throat (not shown) but is extremely bloody around the neck afterwards.
  • A woman falls from a balcony and hits her head, dying (not very graphic).

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Opium and Wine Vinegar are heavily used. Many characters are shown laying around smoking Opium in dens and at home. The effects of the drug on the men is explored as they are pale and weak. The Opium Den as well as the potential evil of the drug, are central to the plot.
  • Wine vinegar is usually only consumed as a remedy, no one really gets drunk from it.
  • A fight breaks out after a bunch of characters go out drinking and cause trouble.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • As with any kung-fu film, the fighting can sometimes be intense, especially when characters are injured. The hanging woman and suicidal man are kind of sudden and may frighten younger kids. The opium addicts are kind of desperate looking.
  • There are some scenes of withdrawal where the character is thrashing about, shaking and screaming. It may startle younger viewers.
